Starsand Island 1.0: New Save or Keep Old Save

Should you start a new Starsand Island save for 1.0? Official news says 3-heart stories unlock on old files. Here is when a fresh island still makes sense.

8/20/2026 Last updated: 8/20/2026

Last verified: August 20, 2026 — Game version: Starsand Island 1.0 (launched August 18, 2026). Facts come from official Steam news, the community wiki, and dated player reports.

Keep the old save if you already have 3-heart residents, bought land, or a profession at Junior or higher. Start a new save if the file is months stale, the farm is a mess, or you never touched Island Life. Official 1.0 notes say existing 3-heart relationships can open the new stories. Progress is still not shared in multiplayer either way.

What Official News Promised

The 1.0 romance upgrade is the key carry-over. Relationship Stories and dating activities (picnic, arcade, kite) were sold as additions on top of existing affection, not a wipe. The community wiki’s older “romance comes in summer 2026” line is leftover Early Access text — 1.0 shipped those systems on August 18.

What Does Not Carry

Cross-platform saves do not exist. A Steam file will not appear on Switch 2. Multiplayer does not merge islands, so a pretty old farm does not become your friend’s farm. Some 1.0 bugs (Golden Cudgel, Houseboat, Neona move-in) are being reported on both old and new files — a fresh save is not a guaranteed fix.

A Practical Order

  1. Boot the old file. Open Island Life and note your rank.
  2. Check hearts on anyone you cared about.
  3. Open Buy Land and count purchased Hopeland plots (wiki prices climb from 2,000 / 50 Starsand to 160,000 / 300).
  4. If those three look valuable, keep it.
  5. If you cannot remember the phone apps, play two days on the old file before you delete anything.

From Community Gameplay

Reddit returning players asked this on launch week. The honest answer is boring: old files are worth more than they feel. New files are only cheaper if you were going to ignore romance and land anyway. See romance and expand farm.
